BURLINGTON, CANADA, April 4, 2005 — L-3
Communications WESCAM (L-3 WESCAM), a wholly owned subsidiary
of L-3 Communications, announced today that it has been selected
by EADS-CASA to supply critical imaging sensors needed for the
Spanish Navy’s fully integrated airborne surveillance solution.
The order includes a total of five MX-15 electro-optical and
infrared (EO/IR) imaging turrets, with ongoing deliveries scheduled
through May 2005.
L-3 WESCAM’s MX-15 will provide immediate situational awareness
for search and rescue and airborne surveillance type missions from
the Spanish Navy’s SH-3D (Sea King) helicopters. The MX-15
will be further equipped with advanced MX-GEO, auto tracker, moving
map and GPS options to ensure operators receive positive geographical
references and are able to automatically locate, point, track and
focus with unparalleled accuracy.
The imaging capability of the MX-15 enhances the
Spanish Navy’s
ability to see first and act first. Qualified to military standards,
its advanced stabilization and impressive sensor technology provide
long-range subject detection and identification in day and night
and in the most extreme atmospheric weather conditions.
“L-3 WESCAM’s increasing participation in the Spanish
Navy’s SH-3D upgrade program is an indication of the need
for modern sensor technology in the naval marketplace. The fact
remains that WESCAM was selected based on its surveillance capabilities,
such as long-range identification and accurate target location,” said
Paul Jennison, vice president of government sales for L-3 WESCAM. “Another
relevant naval program supported by L-3 WESCAM’s MX-20 imaging
turret is the U.S. Navy’s P-3C Aircraft Improvement Program
(AIP).
L-3 WESCAM is a world leader in the design and
manufacture of stabilized, multi-spectral airborne imaging systems.
