BURLINGTON, CANADA, June 27, 2006 – L-3 Communications
WESCAM (L-3 WESCAM), a wholly owned subsidiary of L-3 Communications,
announced today that it has been competitively selected by Warner
Robins Air Logistics Center to provide MX-15 electro-optical and
infrared (EO/IR) imaging turrets for use on the Air Force Special
Operations Command’s (AFSOC) MC-130H and MC-130P fleet. The
MX-15 was selected via a bid to MTC Technologies, Inc. (MTCT),
the prime contractor for the program. MTCT will begin deliveries
immediately and is planning to provide 60 systems and additional
spares.
After carefully considering competitive alternatives, MTCT selected
the WESCAM MX-15 based on superior performance and the low risk
ability to mechanically and electrically replace the AN/AAQ-17.
The MX-15 modular spiral growth path was also seen as a significant
benefit to the evolving mission’s AFSOC encounters.
“We are very pleased to work with MTCT and appreciate the
opportunity to demonstrate the capabilities of our company and
our product to AFSOC and the C-130 community,” said John
Dehne, president of L-3 WESCAM.
The MX-15 selected for AFSOC is a direct drop-in replacement for
the current Q-17 and provides a high-performance multi-Field-of-View
digital IR camera and multi-mode video autotracker as well as a
spiral growth path for the subsequent addition of Low Light TV,
Eye Safe Laser Rangefinder (ESLRF), laser pointer and image fusion
of the IR and LLTV. The MX-GEO suite of geographically registered
functions can also be incorporated to enhance operator ease of
use on long missions, and in combination with the ESLRF, will deliver
highly accurate target location information.
L-3 WESCAM is a world leader in the design and
manufacture of stabilized, multi-spectral airborne imaging systems.
