Puerto Rico Police Department Selects L-3 WESCAM MX-15 EO/IR Sensor and Digital Microwave Equipment For Tactical Surveillance Solutions

BURLINGTON, CANADA, November 24, 2004 — L-3 Communications WESCAM (L-3 WESCAM), a wholly owned subsidiary of L-3 Communications, announced today that the Puerto Rico Police Department has selected L-3 WESCAM’s sophisticated imaging and wireless technology to create fully-integrated, air-to-ground tactical surveillance solutions. Providing immediate situational awareness, this equipment will support the department with its airborne law enforcement, drug interdiction and border patrol missions.

The first part of the order includes three MX-15 multi-sensor electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) imaging systems, two of which will be mounted on Bell 407s and the third to be mounted on the F406 Vigilant (REIMS Aviation).

The second part of the order consists of two MX-PODs. Responsible for the long range transmission of real-time video and audio from the Bell 407s, the MX-PODs will transmit airborne data to the four WISARD™ HandHeld receivers and two WISARD™ AzTrack receivers that were also included in the order.

Through the capture and transmission of precise Imagery Intelligence (IMINT), L-3 WESCAM’s technology will put critical data in the hands of those who need it, allowing for real-time strategic plans to be established, rationalized and executed on a moment’s notice. Both the Bell 407 and the F406 Vigilant solutions will include a fully integrated Moving Map from AeroComputers to ensure crews have a geographic reference to all visual imagery. System deliveries are scheduled for February and March 2005.

“This contract further strengthens L-3 WESCAM’s position as a dominant supplier of imaging solutions to the Airborne Law Enforcement market,” said Paul Jennison, vice president of government sales for L-3 WESCAM. “As one of the few system providers in the world offering integrated solutions, we continue to empower the ALE market with the capability to execute realistic situation management by delivering a faster, more accurate stream of dynamic visual information.”
