As prime contractor for
many multi-million dollar programs, Wescam is experienced
in providing a complete command, control and communications
network, integrating the best technology into a system
solution. Wescam is one of the few system providers
in the world that offers integrated solutions including
sensor turrets, digital and analog wireless communication
equipment, and control systems. Integration allows
the visual images from our sensors to be used with
voice and data communications and existing avionics
to provide a comprehensive visual information system.
For
the US Coast Guard’s CASPER program,
for example, Wescam provided a cost-effective,
transferable visual information and communication
workstation. This turnkey system solution integrates
the Wescam MX-20 long-range surveillance turret
with radar, tactical database, communications and
operator interfaces to provide a complete target
management and communication system.
For
law enforcement markets, Wescam has supplied integrated
surveillance systems for both covert operations and
intelligence-gathering missions to customers domestically
and abroad. Typical applications include a number
of aircraft flying with Wescam 12DS200 or MX-20 turrets
and transmitting the imagery to the ground with either
omni-directional or long-range directional transmitters.
On the ground, single receive sites or a network
of interconnected sites distribute the imagery, data
and voice communications to those who need it, when
they need it. The level of complexity in such applications
is usually high due to the vast amount of third party
equipment that is integrated and installed both in
the air and on the ground.
Providing
point-of-view cameras and wireless communications
in the harshest of environments, Wescam is a supplier
to NASA for equipment used in the construction of
the International Space Station. When the astronauts
leave the Station to work in space, they are each
equipped with three Wescam lenses and two Wescam
transmitters. These visual information systems provide
real-time imagery to other astronauts on the space
station and to support staff on the ground to maximize
the effectiveness of the mission.
In
sports broadcasting applications, Wescam provides
system integration services for the NASCAR autoracing
circuit to both FOX and NBC. The overall system includes
miniature point-of-view cameras and digital wireless
video transmitters in sixteen of the cars in the
race. A relay helicopter flying over the race track
collects imagery, data and voice communications and
relays them back to the ground. Camera source selection
is conducted in the outside broadcast facilities
though a computer interface.
Wescam has also been a supplier of
camera and communications systems to the International
Olympic Organizing Committee’s host broadcasters
for both summer and winter Olympic games for almost
20 years. Here the systems level solution varies
from event-to-event but always includes Wescam personnel
on site to operate and maintain the equipment throughout
the games.
