$20K Raised for Wounded Warriors Canada

Working @L3WESCAM

This Years Fund Raising Exceeds Our 2017 Goal!

Our freedom and safety come at a price. To defend and protect our way of life, our Servicemen, Servicewomen, and First Responders willingly step into harm’s way. Often this is at the cost of their own health and wellbeing.

We give our gratitude and support to the brave men and women who give so much.    As such, the WESCAM Support Our Troops Committee has completed a successful 2017 fundraising campaign, for Wounded Warriors Canadaan organization that helps those suffering with injuries – physically or mentally – which were acquired in the line of duty.

This year, our fundraising goal was $10,000 – enough to cover the training cost of a PTSD service dog- a three-year process. We are pleased to report that thanks to the dedication and generosity of L3 WESCAM employees, we raised DOUBLE that amount. We are now able to sponsor the training for not one, but two PTSD service dogs for our uniformed heroes in need.

The donation was accepted by Steve Topham, WWC’s new National Partnerships Director, who previously held the position of Highway of Heros Bike Ride Director and Special Events Director.

Thank you to everyone who donated time and money so generously – You’ve made a real difference!

A Worthy Cause

In 2010, WESCAM employees formed “Support Our Troops”, a committee which found a way to help soldiers and veterans. One of our first campaigns raised money for hundreds of Tim Horton’s gift cards, to give our troops in Afghanistan a little taste of home. The cards were hand-delivered by a WESCAM employee, and were used for some very well-received doughnuts and double-doubles in the tiny Tim’s on base in Kandahar.

Since then, our fundraising efforts have grown, and upon finding Wounded Warriors Canada we adopted them as our primary cause. WWC has a bare-bones staff of five and no government funding. But what they do is vital: Helping veterans and first responders living with physical injuries and invisible wounds such as; combat-related stress, major depression, brain injury, PTSD and attempted suicide.

WWC’s mission is to Honour and Support Canada’s ill and injured Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans, First Responders and their families’, by offering programs, services and a helping hand throughout the healing process, and adjustment to their new ‘normal’. We are proud to be involved with such a worthy cause.

“It has been my absolute pleasure to work with this committee raising funds for Wounded Warriors Canada,” says Steve Hoogendoorn, WESCAM Support Our Troops Committee Co-Chair. “It means a great deal to know two soldiers will get the help they need because of our efforts.”

“We could not have had such a successful year without many of us working together; The unwavering commitment of our committee, the support of our management, and the generosity of our employees. With such true teamwork we can overcome challenges, and we can all be proud of WESCAM’s achievements.  Our efforts will help heal someone’s suffering.  Thank you WESCAM.“ Scott Eisbrenner, WESCAM Support Our Troops Committee Co-Chair
