We all work hard, and with technology, we remain connected to our jobs beyond our scheduled hours of work. Businesses are increasingly acknowledging the need to improve the “employee experience”. The L3Harris WESCAM Ribfest is just one summer event that defines our culture, promotes employee engagement, and provides the time to have fun and interact with colleagues – on a different level.
As the 2019 Global Human Capital Trends Report indicates, the employee experience is social, “it is built around culture and relationships with others, moving well beyond a focus on an individual employee’s needs… they want a career, a purpose, and meaning from their work.”
Ribfest is unique in that many of our employees not only enjoy the food, fun and sense of community, but they also provide the entertainment.
Between our locations in Don Mills and Burlington, close to 10 groups took the stage, much to the amazement of their colleagues. These are people we see in the halls every day, who we know as engineers, recruiters, managers and technicians, and who also have incredible musical talent.
Ribfest is a hallmark event featuring fabulous bbq, ice cream trucks, games and the opportunity to mingle with colleagues and management. So popular, that some, who had previously scheduled a day off, changed their plans in order to attend this year’s Ribfest. Under sunny skies, Jan Barton, Vice President, Human Resources, fearlessly took the plunge (literally) at the dunk tank. Employees paid to dunk their colleagues and managers. It was all in good fun, to help raise donations for the United Way and Wounded Warriors Canada; organizations that help ensure that those within our local communities can better access services to address issues like poverty and mental illness.
“It’s wonderful to take time from our daily jobs to get to know one another,” said Jan Barton. “Events like Ribfest allow us to really see the variety of talents that people who make up this great organization have! The caliber of our musicians, dedication of our organizing committee and the enthusiasm among our employees is exemplary.”
From cricket to axe throwing, trivia to a donut-on-a-string challenge, the competition was fierce, and a great time was had by all. It’s said that WESCAM’s success is due to our people, and our employees are a diverse group of individuals, who are incredibly talented both inside and outside of the office.
